    Default Condensation in Speedo

So I noticed I have condensation clinging on the inside of the glass in my speedo. I have never messed with the speedo. I guess I need to take it apart and start looking around as this cant be good for it. Does it open up so that I can dry it out? Anyone have any comments on what they would do? And dont say, good excuse to buy a vapor I dont have the coin right now.

I wouldn't worry about it; mine's collected a bit of moisture before. Can you read the display?

Yeah I can read it. Concerned with the fact that it's there. If it's getting moisture in there isn't it a matter of time before it fries the electronics or is that moisture not able to get into the speedo itself?

I don't want glass anywhere near my Speedo!!

Back to the subject at hand... Water is non-conductive; it's all of the little impurities in it that create electrical conduits. Unless you're submersing the speedo, or have opened it while on the trail, there's probably little to be worried about. If something *does* fry, that's your opportunity to get a Vapor.

You might try taking a hair dryer and holding it above on a low setting. Not too close or for a long period of time as you don't want to melt anything. When I've washed cars before that have a leaky headlight gasket and moisture gets in there and makes them foggy, I've used this method to dry the trapped moisture.

Rice doesn't absorb moisture without heat.

The key to concern is how long it has been this way and or how many atmospherical changes the device has endured since it has gotten this way. Many times the fogged component will rid itself of internal moisture over time when exposed to different environmental conditions as long as it has not lost its ability to vent. Key conditions that will rid the problem are cycles of:

    1. Heat cycling
    2. Humidity changes.
    3. Dew point events.
Your speedo display has a vent. If it becomes inoperative, the fog will endure. I would just wait and see if atmospheric changes will rectify the problem. If in the longer term the display exhibits the same, then I would be concerned. Remember when the dew point equals the relative humidity, water is always present everywhere. In your area, moisture is always a force.

    1)Remove speedo
    2)Insert in bowl of rice
3)Drink ALL NIGHT LONG and forget about speedo
4)After hangover/eating breakfast, go reinstall speedo w/o moisture.. if it works for cellphones i know it will work for a speedo.

*okay mike your right.. keep it somewhere warm too duh*

Thanks for the info. Always impressed with your knowledge. Its only happened this once and hasnt been there for more than couple days. Before I read your post I took a shop light and warmed it up and seems to be gone. But I do want to check the vent. Will you explain where it is? I tried my normal searches and no luck on finding a pic or description of it.

I almost did this tonight. I ate rice and generals chicken, have been drinking since I got home, and cant find my phone. I think I got speedo dry but if not, will do exactly as you suggest. Your plan sounds solid.

I can show you the next time I have one apart........Hint...When an electrical device is sealed from moisture and the elements in general, it is said to be "cased" or encased. More technically speaking, the device is known to be "hermetically sealed". There are industrial standards for such components, however your Z's display is not sealed from the atmosphere.........
