headshake fix?

Hey guys, I've been riding dirt for ages but I'm new to two wheels on tarmac. Is there a good/easy way to fix high speed wobble on a S model without switching to a 17" wheel? Thanks.

what is "high speed" what MPH do you experience it happening?

A steering damper is a way to "damp out" the resonance. This is more of a band-aid type fix. The questions above are oriented towards identifying the actual source of the issue.

Is it just under hard acceleration, or are your talking about the highway speed wobble that is very easily induced by shifting your weight or nudging the bars? I have (b) on my SM (17" wheels), but just deal with it. I don't have (a). You can get out of the speed wobble (b) by changing your speed a little.

Suzukis have steep steering geometry and tend to shake easy. I bought my first steering damper soon after getting my DRZ. Now I run them on all my bikes. I like the GPR.

It happens at 70mph. I have basic dual sport tires on it. And yes its the stock mirrors. It sounds like a steering damper will help but I don't want that to add that to cover up another problem (wheel out of true, forks misaligned etc). Maybe the answer is not going over 70mph since I'll run out of gearing soon after that anyway...

will it still happen if you creep up slowly from 60 to 70 MPH ? Also try tucking to take the wind factor out and see if that makes a difference, it does on mine.

Here is my $.02

1. Sit up on the seat, but your probably doing that since you have ridden dirt.
2. Set the Sag, probably already done, but should mention it.
3. Get a SM front fender. The stocker is a sail above 60 ish.

I have an SM with sm bodywork and i removed the windsail mirrors and it still wobbles above 75 or so although its controllable it doesn't inspire confidence. I think its probably a result of suspension/chassis geometry and lack of aerodynamics but im hoping i can remedy it with some suspension adjustment. Either way i dont think 17 inch wheels would remedy your problem man.
