Not to my knowledge..... but do put a thick layer of white grease around the contact edge of the filter to help keep dust out![]()

You really don't want to ride in dirt with a K&N! I like them on my steet bike, but they pass dirt.

As long as your snorkel is still in place, you are way off of the intended target values for performance. By leaving the snorkel in place "for now" you are negating the original intent of your mods in the first place. Therefore, while the snorkel is present, while running the " normally desired 25 pilot jet", you are actually quite rich at all settings. There is no doubt the K&N will pass the utmost air however, there is a distinct difference between the whole air in VS. air out idea as you asked as to a simple re-jet. You must remove the snorkel to be on an even keel with the rest of us. Its just that simple sir. But yes I like K&N filters when used properly. As our good friend Pete has said above, they MAY pass some dirt when not used correctly..........Good question my friend...........![]()

that means i have to remove that snorkel first and then put a k&n on it ?
I think he means you should do the 3" x 3" mod.

if i do the 3x3 mod, any different jeting set up between stock filter and k&n filter?
Go to an off road race, you won't see K&Ns.

Buy Australian
Get a UNI Filter kit.
They come with dual foam filter
You only need two tools to fix things.
If it supposed to move and doesn't WD40
If it moves and shouldn't Duct Tape
This guy told me they don't run them because it won't protect the Viper motor in his truck.

Most of the guys I know running K&N run pre filters and even carry an extra one or two in the truck for after the silt beds.....super knarly for any filter...but yes..K&N breath way better and with out the pre filter they suck up crapHence why on my truck I run a pre filter on it

I live here in circle dirt track racing capital of the world. Many folks use K&N's on their cars,trucks,bikes,go-karts, etc. Many have $$ 40k to 80k fuel injected alky sprint car engines like those used in the World Of Outlaw series. Its all in what your used to or how much it bothers you to do certain thing and keep up with the constant maintenance of the K&N. But yes, you need to do the 3x3 mod to get the most out of engine / exhaust no matter which filter you choose. Then begin your jetting after your finished.
i've just removed the snorkel, put a k&n on it and leave other setting unchange:
pj 25
dj needle 2nd clip from the flat end
dj 140
3 turns out (stock fuel screw)
the bike starts pinging ONLY when engine is HOT and i can hear that pinging sound even at idle.
then i put the stock filter back on the bike, go ride for an hour, fan is on, no pinging sound.
so, what setup should i use if i keep that high flow k&n on the bike?
should i put a larger main jet?
move to 3rd clip from the flat end?
larger pj?
stock fuel screw turn out more?
please help![]()
My main reason to say don't was my own experience with my little XR100. I put in a K&N to replace the stock foam, then continued to beat the thing mercilessly on my little dirt oval track. After a couple years the thing had virtually no compression. Found dirt in the intake, it was passing the filter. It did motivate a 120 big bore kit, though!?!But the stock foam filter went back in with it.

debi's rebuild is a good example of why not to run a K&N. Nobody below top pro level should worry about not getting enough airflow out of a foam filter (beside the fact that they would likely run foam ANYWAYS).. its just stupid. Doesn't anybody just ride their shit anymore? Oh and debi, run foam at taneum or your bike won't live long.
